Blanket Sunday has been a long tradition at St. John United Church of Christ. We are keeping that tradition at our church, with some fine-tuning.
Historically, we have collected monies in January for Blanket & Tools Sunday. In January, 2005, we gave a record amount of $2,481.45, compared to $842.00 from the previous year. This record amount was our congregation's generous response to the tsunami relief in Southeast Asia through Church World Service.
We didn't miss Blanket & Tools Sunday this year; we moved it.
You will find the Blanket and Tools Sunday offerings received through May 7. We'll accept offerings after May 7, but that will be the deadline for contributions listed in the bulletin.
Just like those who purchased poinsettias at Christmas or spring flowers at Easter in honor/memory of loved ones, we will list those who give contributions on Blanket & Tools Sunday. Those contributions will be given in honor/memory of wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, or nieces, and will be listed in the bulletin on Mother's Day, also called the Festival of the Christian Home.
Just as the warmth, nurture and protection of a mothers' love is shared with a blanket, so that loving tradition continues with our Blanket and Tools Sunday at St. John United Church of Christ.
